Wallpaper FAQ

What should I consider and/or tell my installer when ordering my wallpaper?

Smooth Matte: The smooth matte 24" wide trimmed paper comes in individual rolls (either a 1 yard roll, 3 yard roll, or 4 yard roll) unlike traditional single or double rolls. Ordering a slightly longer roll is recommended to account for any architectural variances in your space. Patterns are printed on each roll from the bottom up. The pattern at each bottom edge will be identical, however the top edge may vary based on the length ordered. Ex: When comparing a 3 yard roll with a 4 yard roll, the bottom of both will be identical, but the top will vary based on the length ordered. This is particularly important when considering designs with a half-drop repeat. This waste will need to be accounted for in order to create a seamless repeat. When measuring your space, 1) measure the entire area of the wall, 2) do not include baseboards or moulding, but do include doors and windows, 3) round all measurements up to the nearest yard, 4) half-drop patterns will repeat in a half-drop fashion across panels. If half-drop is not indicated, the pattern will repeat across panels as-is. 5) when matching the repeat, the left side of each panel overlaps the right side of the previous strip by approximately 3/4".

Flat Matte: This flat matte paper comes untrimmed in one continuous roll sold by the yard, and the repeat is listed under each design.

What is a half-drop repeat and why are most of your patterns repeated in half-drop? In a half drop repeat, the artwork is repeated along horizontal and vertical lines just like in a full drop repeat, however, the horizontal repeat is staggered. The pattern repeats perfectly on the vertical line but then drops exactly half of the vertical repeat along the horizontal line. This means when your paper is installed, your panels will align in a staggered fashion versus aligning the bottom of each panel. It is important to consider this when determining how many yards of paper to order, as there will be a small amount of waste. Half-drop repeats do a fantastic job of hiding obvious repeats in the patterns, whereby it gives the full space more of a hand-painted artistic spontaneous feel versus a digitally created expected pattern.

Why do you offer two different ground materials and which one should I choose? (Ground material is the paper product on which the pattern is printed). I went back and forth between the two materials so many times, and realized not everyone is looking for the same exact thing, so I decided I’d offer both. Both papers are gorgeous and offer the same benefits as far as where and how they can be used and spot-cleaned. I truly adore both options, and selected high-quality papers that I would personally install in my own home. I truly stand by the unrivaled product and printing process chosen. Each pattern in the collection is meant to be viewed as a piece of art telling a story in your unique space. Where both ground materials are currently available, swatch samples include both. Where there is one material pending or there is only one available, one swatch sample is included. Below are a list of differences. *Colors may vary slightly between 2 different ground materials, therefore they are not meant to be installed together, but rather selecting one versus the other.

Smooth matte paper: It has fantastic wipe-ability, which I personally feel is fantastic for environments with kiddos and bathrooms. It has a slight sheen to it, noticeable in some bright lights. It is slightly less expensive with a shorter turnaround time. It is pre-pasted with a water-activated adhesive. It comes in rolls of either 1 yard, 3 yards, or 4 yards.

Flat matte paper: It feels more like paper and minimizes glare. The flat matte is slightly more expensive and the turnaround time is longer. It is not pre-pasted. It comes untrimmed. It typically comes in a continuous roll of the ordered length.

My pattern does not appear to be available in the ground material that I want. Why is that?

The vast majority of papers will be available in both ground materials. I am currently in the process of finalizing a few of the flat matte patterns and will note under the pattern description whether or not the ground material is pending. If there is no notice of a pending additional option, it will likely not be offered in a different material. With that said, please reach out if you are not seeing what you’re looking for.

I noticed there are a few papers that mention they come in a 'Large yard'. What does this mean?

There are 3 patterns that are offered in a large yard versus a traditional yardage. The paper is simply twice the width as the traditional 27" yardage, so while the price per yard appears to be more, it is in actuality exactly the same due to the larger 54" width.

I noticed the flat matte paper comes ‘untrimmed’. What does ‘untrimmed’ mean and why does the paper come untrimmed? Untrimmed refers to the visible selvedge on the lateral edges of the paper. Traditionally, luxury paper is printed untrimmed. Benefits of untrimmed paper include: 1) allowance for join marks which facilitate efficient pattern repeat and matching for installation 2) extra protection of the product for shipment and installation 3) preferred by most professional installers, as it provides better control and improved outcomes.

What is the current lead time?

Smooth Matte Paper: The current lead time is 2-3 weeks. Each order is custom printed and cut in North Carolina. We do offer ~1-2 week rush order printing. This option is available in the same location in which you select your yardage. Rush order timeframe estimates do not including shipping time.

Flat Matte Paper: The current lead time is the standard 4-6 weeks, plus shipping. Each order is custom created by a family-owned private label business in Connecticut. We do offer ~2-week rush order printing. This option is available in the same location in which you select your yardage. Rush order timeframe estimates do not including shipping time.

Why are there two different prices and turn-around times? The ground materials are printed by two different manufacturers. Both are eco-friendly and printed in the US. Each has a different business structure, and therefore there are different prices and turn-around times.

How much paper should I order? We recommend reviewing with a professional wallcovering installer for the best estimate. You will need to provide them with the dimensions of the paper, as well as the repeat in order for them to provide you with the most accurate information. It is always best to order all paper at one time, so that the dyes are the same with your full order. If you are hanging the paper yourself, there are many helpful resources with wallpaper calculators online, but using a professional installer is the safest route.

Is your wallpaper pre-pasted?

Smooth Matte- Yes. This paper is a durable paper with a water-activated adhesive. Not recommended for application over paints advertised as being stain-resistant or washable. These paints are crafted to prevent things from sticking, including wallpaper. If in doubt, prime your walls with a flat white primer. For smooth matte wallpaper hanging instructions click here

Flat Matte- No. We recommend working with your wallpaper installer to select a standard clear wallpaper adhesive. For Flat Matte wallpaper hanging instructions click here
